IPOH: Pengasas kumpulan rock SYJ, Syed Yusuf Jamalullail, 70, meninggal dunia di rumahnya di Kampung Manjoi di sini hari ini kerana sakit tua.
Jenazahnya dikebumikan di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Gurap selepas solat zohor hari ini.
Kumpulan SYJ yang ditubuhkan oleh Syed Yusuf pernah menggegarkan dunia muzik 80-an dengan genre rock keras.Selain SYJ, kumpulan muzik yang pernah diuruskan Syed Yusuf ialah Ariwatan yang melahirkan penyanyi Aris Ariwatan.
Anaknya yang juga anggota SYJ, Syed Noor Eduat, meninggal dunia pada 11 Oktober 2006 di Hospital Besar Ipoh kerana komplikasi paru-paru. - BERNAMA
SEJARAH KUMPULAN SYJ
Terdapat 3 SYJ iaitu SYJ (Sofea), SYJ 87 (Ariwatan) & SYJ 91. Ketiganya diambil sempena nama pengurus mereka Syed Yusuf Jamalulail. Yang paling dikenali adalah SYJ (Sofea) kerana mereka antara band yang paling banyak mencetuskan kontroversi dengan lirik2 yang panas seperti Hati Syaitan, Orang Timur (Battle Of The Bands 1), Mata Sepet (Battle Of The Bands 2), Anak Liar (1987) dan banyak lagi.
Penampilan mereka lebih ke arah glam rock yang sedang menular di Malaysia ketika itu. SYJ (Sofea) menukar nama kepada Sofea pada tahun 1987 setelah pengurus Syed Yusuf Jamalullail memutuskan supaya tidak mahu lagi mengurus band yang banyak mencetuskan kontroversi. Setelah itu Syed Yusuf Jamalulail mengasaskan sebuah lagi band yang juga memakai nama beliau yaitu SYJ (Ariwatan) atau lebih dikenali SYJ 87, mereka menukar nama kepada Ariwatan pada tahun 1988.Tahun 1993 Rawita (Bassis Bloodshed/Blackshed) & Opie (Gitaris Bloodshed/Blackshed) menganggotai Fotograf sebagai sessionist.
